You'll definitely want to watch Whip It online, because it's bound to be a terrific film you won't want to miss. The movie is based on a young adult novel called Derby Girl written by Shauna Cross, who also wrote the adapted screenplay. Directed by Drew Barrymore, the move stars Ellen Page as an unexpected roller derby natural named Bliss Cavendar. In a recent press conference in Toronto, Barrymore pointed out that she had cast Page before she was cast in the 2007 hit Juno.

When you watch Whip It online, you'll see not only Page and Barrymore (in a supporting role), but a cast that includes Juliette Lewis as rival roller Iron Maven, Kristin Wiig as Malice in Wonderland, who is also Bliss's mentor. Daniel Stern plays Bliss's father, and Marcia Gay Harden plays her mother, who is into beauty pageants and doesn't understand why her daughter isn't.

Production on the movie began in the summer of 2008 with most of the shooting done in Michigan. However, there were some scenes that were shot in Texas. So watch Whip It online and see if you can pick out Detroit and Saline Michigan, and Austin Texas. The novel on which the screenplay was based is about a teen named Bliss Cavendar is under pressure from her mother to be in beauty pageants, which Bliss dislikes. Instead she secretly joins a roller derby league.

Co-produced by Barry Mendel and Drew Barrymore, Whip It is a joint production between Barrymore's Flower Films and Mandate Pictures. Barrymore had never skated before this movie, and so she wisely gave herself a supporting role where skating skill wasn't as vital as it was for some of the other principal performers. You should watch Whip It online to see how she fares on eight wheels.

This movie is Barrymore's debut as a director. She has been producing movies since the 1990s, with her producer credits including 50 First Dates, in which she starred with Adam Sandler, and Charlie's Angels, starring Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Demi Moore. She originally looked around for a director but soon realized that the best way to do the movie how she wanted it was to direct it herself.
